Who wants to save some dollars?
Summer can be an expensive time of year; Christmas, New Year, Summer Holidays and a whole stack of fun! Here are a few simple tips that can save you and your family some money you didn’t even realise you were flushing away!
Leaky tap or pipe?
Here’s a crazy fact: 1 leaky tap can waste up to 20,000 litres of water per year!
Just imagine how much that would be costing you!
Most of the time, we don’t realise we have problems with our pipes until it’s too late! That’s when you start seeing signs of water damage in your walls and ceilings.
Some alarm signals for a plumbing leak, is excess water coming from under your sink, toilet or any other fixtures.
Whatever the cause, ensure you get it addressed sooner rather than later!
What are you putting in your toilet?
Forget the generic things a toilet was designed to dispose of. I’m talking foreign items such as sanitary items, thick paper towel, face wipes and yes, even nappies (gross!!).
Some people seem to mistake their toilet for a rubbish bin; like a black hole where once it goes down that drain, it disappears forever! Unfortunately not.
When a pipe is blocked, this is a signal for more water to be pumped into the bowl every time we attempt to flush it. You know what that causes… Backflow! So that perceived black hole where you thought you’d never see anything again… Surprise!
The only thing that should be entering your toilet (beside from the unmentionables) is toilet paper!
How long is your shower?
I get it! There’s nothing better than an ice-cold shower on a steamy hot day!
But long, luxurious showers… That’s where the issue is!
Did you know that cutting your shower time by 2 minutes, can save you almost 7,000 litres of water a year! Even if you start with cutting it by 1 minute, a saving is still a saving!
Does this sound familiar? Standing aside, waiting for the water in your shower to become warm enough… We all do it! But think about it…. How much water are you wasting in that short period of time? You guessed it… A LOT!
Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting you jump straight in and freeze! Why not catch that water in a bucket and use it on your garden?
I told you these tips were simple!
Why not start saving some dollars on your water bill this summer.
